Violet Szilvas is a Public Relations and Communications expert, and has immersed herself in the field since 1981 through her company UltraViolet Communications. She has served as publicist, writer, editor, proofreader, and instructor in her 30+ years as a practitioner. Szilvas’ experience in public relations and communications encompasses a wide range of products and services: She currently represents book, business, and beauty clients, and has represented clients in music, arts, leisure, hospitality, and sports!
Previously. Szilvas served as a magazine writer for such international publications as Ocean Drive, and national magazines including Elegant Bride and Fashion Spectrum. She also contributed to newspapers, news magazines, catalogs, trades, and in-house publications. Her most recent piece is a blog (November, 2016) for Zildjian Cymbals titled “From the Street to Social”: Tips for Self Promotion from an 80’s Sunset Strip Rock’n’Roll Publicist.”
An adjunct professor, instructor, lecturer and presenter for over 25 years, Szilvas has taught a variety of writing and communication courses for numerous public and private institutions of higher education – both four year universities and two year colleges (currently for the Journalism and Mass Communications Department at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio). Szilvas had a crazy-long stint of 13 years at Florida Atlantic University where she taught classes across three disciplines and from undergrads to professional adult continuing ed students to campus affiliated groups and organizations. Additionally she taught executive seminars on communications skills, writing, and professional skills to business clientele including national, regional, and local companies, governmental agencies, law enforcement, and private individuals (try to say that fast).
Szilvas is a two-time graduate of Kent State University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Journalism, specializing in Public Relations, and her Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with concentrations in Marketing and Management. Szilvas’ master’s thesis was on “Cleveland: The Rock’n’Roll Capital of the World.” Harbinger of the Rock Hall hands down.
Although she has given up her ways of a rolling stone and now resides permanently (read: homeowner) in her home town of Cleveland, Ohio, she now represents her national clientele remotely (no hesitation on travelling though). No more tour busses, but on to 4-star boutique hotels… good either way!

PR CLIENTS/LOS ANGELES
A ton of bands, primarily rock, whose PR I handled far and wide and amassed media coverage far and wide in the heyday of rock: the 1980s. Eddie Money, John Waite (Babys), Animotion (hit single “Obsession”), and what feels like a never-ending clientele of musicians who made it then and are still making it now. For instance, the Hurricane guys now perform with some huge rock draws: Kelly Hansen is lead vocalist of Foreigner, Robert Sarzo was guitarist for Geoff Tate’s Queensryche, Jay Schellen now plays with YES (formerly with one of Vegas’s top attractions “Raiding the Rock Vault”) and bassist Tony Cavazo remains at the helm of a newly revamped Hurricane. From XYZ, lead vocalist Terry Ilous fronts Great White and bassist Pat Fontaine is one of the “Monsters of Rock.” Love/Hate, Rebel Faction, and D’Molls still tour, while Animotion released a new album this year and the Bang Gang is coming the way of the Phoenix. Nice to see my pride is still in action today!
